Obituary: Michael Davies

Posted by sequenceblogger (admin) on September 23, 2011

Sadly, I have learned that Michael Davies passed away today after a long illness. Michael started dancing at the age of 8 at Cadman’s Dance School in Stretford. In later years, he trained for professional exams with Nora Carter in St Helens. Michael made an immense contribution to sequence dancing. In particular he was a very clever arranger of new sequence dances and, along with his then partner Betty Baker, had a number of exceptionally good prizewinners in the early 80′s – Tahitian Waltz, Kestrel Quicktep, Falcon Foxtrot & Bluebird Waltz to name but a few. He has been MC at the very popular sequence dance nights at Stretford Town Hall for the last 30 years, in recent years partnered by Evelyn Kennedy  (pictured with Michael below), as well as being the Manchester area rep for the OTDS. A thoroughly nice man who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
