Updates
New additions to the library are now being made regularly. These will be highlighted below, as they are included, most recent on top. Our interest is in the dances from the excellent but now lesser known dances sixties and seventies, and dances will be selected from the list on our Future Page. Some recently added scripts are available free to view at the foot of the Page(#). This Page is probably worth bookmarking, as it will be frequently updated.
The links below take you to our other site.

This is followed (Bar 12) by a Forward Lock (added 9/9/2010).
LULU SWING Dennis Douglas, 1978: Unusual & catchy Old Time dance, highlights are the two step flicks (four quicks) and Chasse (Bars 3 & 4), repeated on opposite foot (Bars 5 & 6). RUMBA ZEETA David & Valerie Warren, 1977: A nice authentic Rumba with standard variations such as the Fan & Hockey Stick to Alemana. The entry to the Fan is via 7-9 Natural Top and a Spot Turn to R, which gives it quite a different feel. The last four bars use a pleasing variation with Explosion lines (added 4/9/2010).
WALTZ ALAIN Origin unknown: Stunning non-prizewinning Modern Waltz from the 70′s. A few unusual and attractive highlights : the Ronde & Swivel from PP, Bar 8, makes a for a tantalising mid-way teaser, following naturally into an Outside Change on an unusual alignment backing DC against LOD (Bar 9) followed by a Top Spin to the unusual count of 1 & 2 3. The Checked Natural Turn (basically a swing to R followed by a Reverse Pivot) followed finally by a Reverse Turn is also very unusual and yet fits perfectly (added 4/9/2010).
BRITANNIA SAUNTER Committee, 1959: Sorry, I thought this was already there – it was meant to be. Beautiful Old Time competition dance that is quite a challenge. Four step to PP, Rotary Chasse & Pivot, Bars 12 to 15, particularly attractive (added 3/9/2010).

RUMBA SAYONARA Maurice Tait & Yvonne Stanley, 1978: Very nice & fairly advanced. Commences in R shadow position with Sliding Doors. Bars 4 is similar to the entry to an Open Hip Twist but with a swivel 1/2 to R. There are two more swivels for the Lady on the next two steps, 1/2 turn each, whilst the Man rocks in place (first two steps of Bar 5). On the last step of Bar 5 the Lady continues her turn R to dance a Switch, further 1/2 turn R). Bar 7 is Circling Walks to R, R side to R side, both moving fwd, but the hold is unusual. The Man’s LH is behind his back and joined to Lady’s RH, his RH is extended to side & joined to Lady’s LH. Lady’s LH is behind her back, her RH extended to side. In Bar 8, hold is released as the Lady turns to shadow position. Bars 13 & 14 are shoulder to shoulders, but with Lady’s Leg Lifts, followed by an Alternative Basic & fwd walks to finish. Very unsual (added 2/9/2010).

Bars 5 – 8 are unusual, with a Spot turn to Point, followed by an Open Turn to Swing. The last four Bars work well: an Allemande to Ballroom Hold (Bar 13), followed by a Closed Natural Turn (14 & 15), with a fwd Pas de Valse to complete (added 30/8/2010).
MOONLIGHT GAVOTTE Roy & Elaine Sharpe, 1975: An unusual construction that fits the genre very well. Bars 1 – 4 are in open hold but danced on same foot. Bar 11 consists of two walks in PP, double hold, both slow (ie two counts each). This followed (Bar 12) by a loose cross in front LF over RF, and inward twist turn to end back to back. Bar 13 & 14 consists of a Pas Glissade, seperating, a swivel to face partner, & Pas Glissade & Glisse back to rejoin partner. This is followed by the Scissors – two zigs zags in PP & CPP with an aerial after the first (added 30/8/2010 #).

Noted for the same foot version of the Shoulder to Shoulder, Contra Spot Turns, and the change from Contra PP to shadow position (Bars 1 – 4). Then side by side, same foot for Bars 5 – 8, followed by a change to facing figures. Curl to opposition Cucarachas is attractive (Bars 10 – 12). And repeating but varied use of Hockey Stick turns gives a clear structure to the dance (added 28/8/2010).
PARADISE WALTZ Olive McFarlane, 1979: Seamlessy flowing and cleverly constructed, includes the now little used Double Wing (Bars 5 & 6). Bars 2 & 3 and also 7 & 8 are both a half Natural and Back Lock, but the different phrasings make them feel very different, as do the different follows. The first is followed by an Outside Change to PP, the second with a Tipple Chasse & Hover to PP. This is followed with a syncopated Chair (Bar 11) such that the following Fallaway Natural is unusually phrased over Bars 12 & 13. However, some of the details are odd and/or the script is written in a pretty strange way (added 28/8/2010).
RUMBA CASANOVA Ken Park, 1975: Simple, but looks good and feels good. Same foot start in shadow position, unusual alignments, unusually timed Switch Turns, and unusual way of changing the feet on the last bar. Easy ! (added 28/8/2010).

With very effective follow of Swivel Walks to Same Foot Lunge, also with unusual phrasing (added 27/8/2010).
CORAL SAUNTER Ken Park, 1978: Beautiful Saunter with attractively styled curves and spins. In Bar 4 Man & Lady both curve to R on same foot, Man moving fwd, Lady backward, making a full a circle whilst maintaining shadow hold. This is followed with the Man’s chasse to R whilst the Lady spins outwards, ending in a R Lunge line in open hold, still on same foot (Bar 5). Following this the Man chasses twice L whilst the Lady dances curved walks L to ballroom hold (Bar 6). Bars 13 & 14 consist of an Outward Solo Turn L followed by a Spot Turn R to regain shadow hold (added 27/8/2010 #)

Last 6 Bars particularly attractive, comprising Diagonal Cucarachas, changing to tandem position, followed by 2 Bars of Side Steps on “same foot” (starting in a shadow hold, L arms joined, R arms on Lady’s waist, with the L arms lowered to the Lady’s waist over the second Bar), followed by Diagonal Cucarachas on same foot with the Lady turning to facing position on the last step. On the latter Cucarachas, arms are extended in opposition to moving foot, creating attractive lines (added 25/8/2010 #).

AMANDA FOXTROT Tony & Denise Dyer, 1978: Popular 2nd prizewinner, and a basic but beautifully flowing arrangement that just fits perfectly. 1st prizewinner in same comp was WALTZ MICHELLE – see above – (added 25/8/2010).
ASTORIA SAMBA Ted Burroughs, 1978: Fairly advanced Samba, with Reverse Volta Roll, and Chicken Walks done on “same foot” (added 25/8/2010).
WALTZ ACORA Ken Park, 1978: Unusual Modern Waltz sequence with sways & spins (added 25/8/2010).
CAVALIER QUICKSTEP Alwyn Leathley, 1973: Good combination of strongly moving figures (added 25/8/2010).
RUMBA TWO Peter Varley, 1972: Non-prizewinner, sequel to RUMBA ONE, with circling walks theme. Can be made progressive (added 25/8/2010).
TANGO VALENTINO Yvonne Carr, 1978: An Old Time Tango, attractive lines and hold changes (added 25/8/2010).
WALTZ CAROUSEL Bob & Wendy Whelerton, 1972: A 2nd prizewinner. Advanced sequence with unusual structure and lots of spins. Includes the Outside spin to Natural Fallaway, followed by an overturned Running Right Turn to Twist Turn (added 25/8/2010).
FABIAN FOXTROT Bob & Wendy Whelerton, 1977: 2nd prizewinner, not previously released. Fabulous advanced Foxtrot, very unusual construction, with effective syncopations and hesitations, sways, rolls, spins, the little used Four Feathers and the Foxtrot Twist to end. What more could you want ? (added 22/8/2010 #).
DISCO CHA-CHA-CHA Ted Burroughs & Sue Hillman, 1979: Easy routine with disco theme. Originally danced to Sugar Cane’s “Montego Bay” (added 21/8/2010).
VIDEO QUICKSTEP Tony & Denise Dyer, 1979: Highlight of the dance is a promenade combination of a zig-zag, Promenade Fans, and a chasse to Woodpecker. Very similar to CARNOUSTIE QUICKSTEP (added 21/8/2010).
HOLIDAY SAMBA Winn & Bob Oliver, 1979: Easy routine based on basic samba figures with range of holds. Includes now rarely used Argentine Crosses. From inventors of SAUNTER TOGETHER (added 21/8/2010).
TANGO ROSETTA Edgar & Doris Holroyd, 1979: Old Time. Unusual amalgamations of Fallaway Reverse, Prom Link to Slip Pivot & Brush Tap (Bars 1 to 4, repeated 5 to 8). Link & Stalk Walks on Bars 13 & 14 give good Tango character (added 21/8/2010).
INTERNATIONAL QUICKSTEP Eileen Crompton, 1978: Good basic Quickstep sequence, not dissimilar to EIVONNA QUICKSTEP by same arranger (added 19/8/2010).
SHIRLEE CHA-CHA-CHA Shirley Cox, 1977: Easy but appealing dance made up of well structured patterns of oppositely repeating movements. From Shirley Cox, of Come Dancing Latin formation team fame (added 19/8/2010).
RUMBA SANTANA Colin Gear & Lavinia Thomas, 1979: Appealing rumba with unusual structure. Shadow start but on opposite feet. Has both tandem & solo figures, points & leg lift on Bar 10, plus a novel way of changing the feet on Bar 16 following an Aida and Cuban Rock to end back in shadow position, both swivelling to L (added 19/8/2010).
WALTZ ECLAIRE Ken Park, 1977: Modern Waltz sequence with unusual figure in which a Fallaway Whisk and Wing is followed by the steps of the Wing in “reverse” ie with Man moving LF slowly to a Fallaway Whisk position, and the Lady dancing curved backward walks to the same (added 19/8/2010).
ELWYN FOXTROT Alwyn Leathley & Elsie Platts, 1975: From the inventors of CARIBBEAN FOXTROT. Quick Open Reverse from PP to Basic Weave is an attractive variation, particularly with this unusual timing (added 19/8/2010).
ELJAY SAUNTER Lewis & Joan Wilson, 1978: Interesting construction, way ahead of its time. Attractive shapes and patterns, and a variety of Lunges. Bar 6 is an unusual foot change from same foot to opposite foot, to a side Lunge, followed by a side chasses to change places. In Bar 9, another unusual figure, the Man curves 1/2 to R, with the Lady turning 3/4 to to L in an Allemande turn. Finally, the last two Bars described as a Reverse Pivot and Open Reverse Turn give a novel way of changing from ballroom back to shadow hold (added 19/8/2010).
TANGO CAPELLA Jeff & Muriel Aldren, 1979: A very well shaped modern Tango, with an unususually phrased Chasse & Whisk on Bar 5 followed by a Link, Whisk and another Link, all in Q timing. Bars 12 & 13 use a Chase ending as a novel follow to a Reverse Turn, followed by another Chasse & Whisk but on a different alignment and, this time, turning to R. Finally, a Fallaway Reverse and Reverse Twist give an unusual ending (added 17/8/2010 #).
DAFFODIL GAVOTTE Jeff & Muriel Aldren, 1979: Simple & innovative Old Time dance. Bars 11 – 14 are very unusual, comprising an inwards turn with RH’s joined, with the Lady then dancing a strong pivot under the joined arms to end in a tandem position, with the Man’s hands placed softly on the Lady’s elbows. This is followed by same foot back walks to centre, then fwd walks to wall with the Lady finally turning L into ballrom hold, ending with 2 bars of Natural Waltz (added 17/8/2010).
RUMBA PLAYA Jacqueline Ward, 1978: Features the overturned Hip Twist with spiral ending. The placement of the back of the Man’s RH to the Lady’s back e/o Bar 4 creates an attractive shape and helps lead the Rope Spinning on Bar 7. Bar 10 is a back Cucaracha to cuddle hold tandem position. Over the subsequent side steps (both on same foot), the hold is released and the Man’s hands are placed on Lady’s hips, Lady’s hands and top of Man’s. Again, attractive use of arms (added 15/8/2010).
SHERRIE TANGO David Bullen, 1979: An Old Time Tango, unusual construction, with overlap giving good continuity, and with interesting ways of changing between holds. A good variety of shapes, patterns and alignments. Bar 10, a set of points and taps is an attractive figure, as is the sharply timed close & point following a zig zag (bars 12 & 13). Inventor David Bullen also arranged TANGO LAS VEGAS (added 15/8/2010 #).
CHICORY CHA-CHA-CHA Muriel Burrell, 1978: Mainly basic figures, cleverly arranged into a neat pattern. But the unusual double spin for the Lady on bar 4 adds a challenge. Also features an Alemana and an Underarm Turn to R, so the “underarm” theme is a recurring feature. Also has the rarely used Cuban Breaks, as opposed to Split Cuban Breaks (added 15/8/2010 #).
LEIGH-WAY QUICKSTEP Peter Varley, 1977: Sample the delights of the seventies with this – perhaps the best sequence Quickstep ever. Bars 4 to 6 consist of two consecutive Tipple Chasse Rolls on two different alignments. Bars 10 to 15 comprise an attractive Promenade variation com with an Outside Change to PP into a Dropped Ronde both turning R to a Fallaway Chasse, Slip Pivot, then another change to PP, ending with a running Natural (added 15/8/2010 #).
PLANET JIVE Peter Varley, 1974: A super Jive sequence from the seventies with appealingly simple patterns. Features are the ‘Circular Struts’ (to R on Bars 5 & 6 and to L on Bars 13 & 14), the Sway Point Walks, linking the two Struts, and the Solo Twists (four steps where the feet are placed sequentially on the four corners of a square – a bit like “The Shadows” walks (added 15/8/2010).
DENHAM FOXTROT Roy & Dorothy Moxon, 1978: One of the best sequence Foxtrots ever, from the peak of sequence inventive in the late 70′s, from the inventors of HELENBROOKE WALTZ. There is a Quick Open Reverse and Feather Finish on Bars 5 and 6 which has the unusual phrasing (for sequence) of the driving step occurring on the accented beat. The hesitation on Bar 7 is a variant of a Change of Direction but requires the body to underturn so that the following check can be taken OP on the L side. The following combination of outside checks to a Running Feather is unusual and effective. This is followed by an Open Telemark to a normal Reverse Weave entry from PP (a standard combination but rare in sequence dances). The Weave is terminated after step 3 with an Outside Swivel (unturned) leading on to another Weave from PP on a different alignment and underturned. The next bar is described as a Three Step but the Lady turns into PP as part of this figure to follow with a Chair line (added 15/8/2010).
SUNSET WALTZ Joan Wilson, 1974: A very appealing Modern Waltz, well ahead of its time. Features include the Double Natural Spin to Closed Wing, a Same Foot Lunge with a 1-beat hesitation, and the highlight, a Dropped Ronde on Bar 12 followed by a Quick lock & Cross chasse, counted 1&2&3 on Bar 13 (it is important that the body is kept turned rightwards of the feet on the Lock, with & slight L body turn into the Cross Chasse, and then rightwards again on exiting it to take the half Natural outside partner – this creates an attractive ripple effect. The half natural, backward passing change and the back half of a reverse then makes for a nice compact ending (added 13/8/2010 #).
SHARON SAUNTER Yvonne & Roger Corkery, 1978: Simple but attractive Saunter in the classical style, with repeating patterns of locks & swivels in (high) shadow and then double hold (added 10/8/2010).
PASO NOVA Yvonne & Roger Corkery, 1975: Featuring the Ecart, the Spanish Line, the Chasse Cape, plus a good selection of appels and syncopations. Well structured and authentic, and refreshing (added 7/8/2010 #).
BAMBI BLUES David Rollinson & Barbara Heathcote, 1962: Good old time classic, again of interest to competitors, medallists, and social dancers alike. This is the authentic English version of the dance (I understand aternative versions are done in Australia) (added 6/8/2010 #).
